Understanding Skin Care Products for Combination Skin Types

There are many people with what is known as “combination” skin. This is generally when a t-shaped area of oiliness appears across the forehead and down the nose and even to the chin. The scalp and eyebrows too might accumulate oil or be extremely dry as well. The remaining areas of the face may be normal to dry skin types, with the cheeks most often displaying classic symptoms of dry skin conditions. Obviously, this is a truly difficult skin care scenario that is going to call for some special attention.

There are no single skin care products for such a skin type, though many claim to be. The cause for such an ongoing issue is usually a condition known as seborrhea, which can viewed in several different versions, but is the traditional reason for combination skin with accompanying scalp conditions like dandruff or flaking skin.

Because the condition is typified by extremes, treating and caring for such skin is going to require a bit more effort and care, and the use of a wider variety of products and treatments. Firstly, all skin care products will have to offer a balanced approach to treatment, and it should all begin with a mild facial cleanser at least once each day, though twice is recommended. Most people with combination skin tend to seek out skin care products with balancing properties that will combat accumulations of oil where it is encountered, but without the addition of a drying agent such as alcohol.

Many people with combination skin will also use two different types of skin masks at least once a week as well. A clay-based mask should be used on oily areas and a moisturizing mask to the dry areas.

After washing is completed, an oil-free moisturizer should be applied while the skin is still a bit damp, and a daytime moisturizer with sun block is recommended for those areas of the skin that are usually more noticeably dry.

Additionally, using an anti-dandruff shampoo during every other shower can help with any scalp conditions associated with combination skin conditions. If dandruff becomes a serious issue along with ongoing extremes, it is probably best to visit a dermatologist who can prescribe specialized products.

Makeup can also be a bit challenging for those with t-zone problems because there are few that can deliver a balanced performance. It is best to utilize a base makeup formulated especially for combination skin, as well as one with a sun block or SPF of at least level 10.
